- Purpose of the school:
The annual Herbstschule of High-Energy Physics aims to introduce graduate students to the latest theoretical and experimental progress in this field of research. It offers lectures on current topics and exercise classes on more fundamental theoretical concepts. Students have furthermore the opportunity to present their own work to their peers. These short presentations are supposed to further the exchange of ideas, to practice the skill of presenting, and to generally introduce oneselves to the community of young scientists. In the evenings there will be a few talks by outside speakers on topics of general interest, as well as many opportunities to socialise.
- Events:
- Lectures
- circa three different classes of four hours each on broad and connected issues in High Energy Physics
- circa five different classes of three hours each on more specialised topics in particle physics or adjacent fields
- Exercises
- approximately nine hours of exercise classes with varying level of complexity, subject to prior knowledge of the participants
- Group meetings
- participants give a short presentation — 15 to 20 minutes — on their own work, with a brief discussion following each talk
- Evening talks
- circa four talks on topics of general interest, including those outside of physics, with discussions
