What is the “Herbstschule”

Every year in early September we offer a series of lectures and exercises by renowned experts, who come to the Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef. During a period of circa 10 days you will receive a world-class education, room and board on location and – needless to say – a whole lot of fun. The weather is typically still nice and warm, but the time for “summer school” has passed. “Herbst” is autumn in German, yet September is early enough to stay clear of the beginning of the fall term at universities.

This event is supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF).

The school is primarily aimed at PhD students of theoretical and experimental high energy particle physics. If you are interested in participating follow the link to learn how to do so.

Recent topics of the main Lectures
  • Experimental results from the LHC — Florencia Canelli (U Zürich)
  • QCD and jets at the LHC — Lance Dixon (SLAC)
  • Physics beyond the Standard Model — Tao Han (U Pittsburgh)
  • Particle physics detectors — Jochen Dingfelder (U Bonn)
  • Cosmology — Carlos Frenk (U Durham)
  • Experimental lepton flavour physics — Ann-Kathrin Perrevoort (U Groningen)
